Day 87 - Fort William
A relaxed 'rest-day' and a walk through town to sit in the warm sunshine for a coffee outside the Museum with Elspeth and Charles.
We got talking to Tommy who'd cycled up from Yorkshire and been camping all the way. He'd intended to arrive in Fort William yesterday to climb Ben Nevis this morning but because of the strong headwinds he'd not made the progess he'd hoped for during the day and had had to stop short. As a result, he was delaying his walk up until tomorrow and then would be heading Southwards to climb Sca Fell and Snowdon.
We admired his Dawes Galaxy bicycle which he and his wife had bought secondhand in 1984. He reckoned he'd already ridden it for tens of thousands of miles.
It looked like Tommy and his bike would be good for tens of thousands more!
A chance for another coffee in the sunshine
and for me to show off my RNLI socks
before heading for a walk around the old Fort and a doze on the lawns ..
You're obviously having a very well deserved rest after what appeared an extremely arduous test over the last few days...but... the old RNLI socks, ...they look as good as new!
ReplyDeleteInteresting that Tommy is likely to be climbing Snowdon on Saturday...he could be there at the same time as Ben and Anna..the Three Peaks set off from Barmouth on Saturday, and they're the runners in their crew!
... both feet report that they're very comfortable and of course with those colours they go with just about every one of my outfits!!!
ReplyDeleteAll the best to Ben and Anna - I looked up the Three Peaks Yacht race website and it looks like they have a strong team and a good fast boat.
Jonathan loved the bike and told me about all its particular features - I am sure he’ll be happy to share with you when we next meet 😂 Pam x
