Day 7 - Newquay to Padstow - 15.5 miles
Easter Saturday. In milky sunshine, the first section of today's walk took us along the coast path from Watergate Beach,
high above Stem point and Beacon Cove where we saw Dunnocks. No, I'd not have recognised one either without the help of a clever app. Birdnet which recognised their tweeting call. Before long we descended to Mawgan Porth where we met up for a long arranged walk with our friends Paul, Caroline, Owen and 1 year old Arron.
They'd come down for a family weekend and a day's walk with us - What a lovely day, so a big thankyou to them.
No sooner had we met, than the sun came out in it's full glory and stayed that way for the remainder of the day.
Back on the path, the colours were wonderful...
and (what we think is) vetch.Along the coast path, it's interesting to see how the field walls change from one point to another and presumably reflect the qualities of the available stone and which constructions have stood the test of time. Along this stretch of the coast the walls are made of relatively small interlocking diagonal stones pointed with soil and mud.
We selected a fine location for our picnic lunch overlooking Porthcothnan beach.
After the obligatory coffee and ice cream stop, we met Tom and Joel from the local RNLI lifeguard team. There are so many enticing beaches along this coast and the surf attracts hundreds into the water. Each of these beaches has a visible presence of teams of RNLI lifeguards keeping a watchful eye on the safety of everyone on the beach. It is impressive. To photograph each of these teams would be worthy of a book in itself and I'm certainly not going to say hello to each one as I'd never get to Scotland...but they did have an impressive jeep!
This evening, having walked almost 80 miles in the last week we treated ourselves to a meal at St Petroc's Bistro - delicious!!
And then to bed.....zzzzzz!
Total ascent so far = 10 335 feet
Lovely walls as a backdrop to the abundant flora and fauna! Barrie
