Day 6 - Perranporth to Newquay - 10.7 miles
At breakfast we met a family from Austria who were walking the same route - heading for Newquay and Padstow. Having walked a section of the Coastal path a few years ago, they were back for more. They were already looking very organised and by the time we were on our second piece of toast, they were out of the door and gone!
With the tide out, the walk along Perran beach was inviting and avoided the trudge over 2 miles of sand dunes.
Hoblyn Cove.
Apparently this was the warmest day of the year so far. It didn't feel that way on the headlands - especially with regular bands of sea mist and drizzle rolling in off the sea.
Joke Cove.
Crossing the Crantock footbridge is only possible 2 hrs either side of low tide so along the way we'd had to revisit our calculations to ensure we could cross and avoid a long walking detour around the head of the river. Safely crossed we finished our walk by climbing over the hill into Newquay.
We'd arranged to meet James for beer this evening and he very modestly told us of some of his previous trips which included. walking to Everest Base camp, cycling from Whitby to Singapore along the Silk Route before cycling the Pacific Highway from Alaska to the Mexican border. Lots of inspiration for the future.....!!!!!

Such a pleasure to check in on the day’s adventures. Text and photos are both wonderful. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThanks Mike. We'll have to plan a walk for when you're next over.
