Day -3 Train to St Austell

A promising start from Paddington on the 1204 for St Austell but after two separate "incidents" we eventually arrived - after sunset, 7 hours later. A long, delayed train journey certainly provides opportunities for interesting chats with strangers - helped along by the most jovial of buffet trolley drivers!  Fortunately the sun was shining while we stood for what seemed like ages on the platform at Newton Abbott.
It's embarrassing to admit that the train stops at lots of places I'd never heard of before. Par even has signal box and a man with an oily rag! Long live the Great Western Railway!!!

  1. I wouldn’t worry about the man with the rag — just Par for the course.

  2. Tell us how much your pack weighs!

    1. Hi Mike. I've tried to keep my pack to less than 10 but that's prooved difficult and that's before adding some water for the day, a small flask of coffee etc.
Perhaps I'll get used to it by the Scottish border !!
