Day 2 - Pendeen to St.Ives - 13.5 miles

None of the weather forecasts held out much hope today. The Met, the BBc and XC weather all predicted rain throughout the morning and gust up to 40mph.
Well, none of them were correct! After heavy rain overnight, we left Pendeen clad in full battle wet weather gear in the expectation that we'd soon be drenched.  Also, anticipating narrow paths along the cliffs in strong wind, we selected a slightly inland route and passed through gentle farmland and happily curious cattle.
In actuality the day got better as we went on and we were soon enjoying a morning of sunshine and found our way back on to the coast path.
We climbed high on Bosigran Castle and gazed down into the azure water in Porthmoina Cove 300 feet below.
Further along, as we climbed out of Porthmeor Cove we spotted two inquisitive seals patrolling the rocky shoreline.
Then on reaching Gurnard's Head in the sunshine
we turned back inland for a coffee at Zennor, giving the Plague stone a wide berth
before walking along Idina's recommended route through what seem like the ancient farms of Tremedda, Tregerthen, Trevessa, Trevega, and Trevelgan before dropping back down on the Coast route at Clodgy point for our first sight of St Ives. 
Tired feet!!!
Total distance so far = 24.5 miles
Total ascent so far = 3199 feet

Dunrobin Castle came well recommended - particularly the gardens to which you could get in for free. Well, not today you can't.....unless you want a tour of the Castle as well! Pah! Last few days

Only just a few days remaining before heading North(ish) from Lands' End at the weekend. Having Covid over the last week hasn't helped in the final preps but gradually the T line has been getting fainter so I've pressed the ignition switch and I'm warming the engines!!

Day 109 - Orkney

Helen dropped us off at the Ness of Brodgar - a live archaeological dig of a large site that was discovered only a few years ago. Because of the risk of weather erosion to the dig and the availability of student archaeologists to help with the back-breaking excavation, the site is only open for 7 weeks before it gets covered again until next Summer. There are valuable finds being made almost every day. You could sense the enthusiasm and excitement in the air at the gradual and careful unearthing of crucial finds. We walked via the Stones of Steness  to catch the bus to Kirkwall. The ferry port has connections to some of the other Northern Orcadian islands - Eday, Westray and Sanday from which there are further ferries to others.
